About the shop
The van you see on I-5 every working morning.
Hawks Prairie Appliance Pro is one independent technician and one well-stocked van, based off Marvin Road by exit 111, covering Lacey, the east side of Olympia, the prairie towns and the I-5 stretch up through Lakewood.

Named after the part of Lacey that grew fastest.
Thirty years ago Hawks Prairie was gravel pits and pasture. Now it is subdivision after subdivision from Marvin Road to Britton Parkway, townhomes tucked behind the big-box stores, and Jubilee on the hill. The shop is based here by exit 111. The van runs the I-5 corridor north from Hawks Prairie on most working days, which is why DuPont, Steilacoom and Lakewood are on the schedule as a matter of routine rather than a special trip. From the base the route continues across to the east side of Olympia, south through Tanglewilde to the lakes, and out to Yelm and Roy.
The houses set the work. New subdivisions fail in waves — a street’s worth of ice-maker modules and dishwasher pumps inside a year or two — and the van shelves are stocked for whichever wave is running. Older Lacey fails by age: sixties ranch houses with the original dryer receptacle, apartment closets with a stacked pair, lake cabins where the dryer vents into a damp crawlspace. Beyond the city water and gas mains it is wells, septic and propane, so the first look is always for scale, iron and a burner set up for the wrong fuel. Up the corridor, DuPont and Lakewood turn over with PCS season, and machines that just came off a moving truck arrive with their own list of complaints.
What a visit is like
Call or send the form, get a two-hour window, get a call when the van is on its way. The instruments come out before any theory does. The failure gets an everyday name — a crusted inlet valve, an open thermal fuse, a drum roller worn flat — and the job goes onto one sheet as a total with the $99 already in it. Yes, and the part is very often already aboard; a full cycle runs before we pack up. No, and you are out $99 and nothing else, and you still know what is wrong. The floor is wiped, the kick panel is back on straight, and the warranty term is printed where you can see it on the invoice.
What we hand off
Microwaves, wine coolers, countertop ice machines, softeners, water heaters, garbage disposals, RV and marine units, restaurant equipment. Name what you have and the phone call settles it. The six that remain — the refrigerator-freezer, washer, dryer, dishwasher, the oven or range or cooktop, and the ice maker in the fridge door — get all the shelf space and all the practice.
Tenants, owners and families in transit
A large share of the corridor rents, and a large share of it moves every few years. So the arrangement is simple: whoever lives there opens the door, whoever owns it approves by phone or email from wherever they are that day, the invoice goes out by email with the warranty term on it, and the gate code is erased from the notes once the job is done.
The visit
From your call to the test cycle
- STEP 01
Reach the shop
Say which machine and what it is doing. You get a two-hour window that works around school runs and shifts, and a call when the van leaves the previous stop.
- STEP 02
Instruments first
Clamp meter on the compressor lead, probe thermometer in the cabinet, manometer on the gas manifold. Once the failed part has a name the whole job goes onto one sheet: a single total with the $99 already sitting inside it.
- STEP 03
Your call
Yes, and the part is usually on a van shelf and fitted that afternoon. No, and your only cost is the $99, plus knowing what broke.
- STEP 04
Proof it works
A complete cycle runs while you watch, the kick panel goes back on straight, and the invoice lists the warranty term in print.
Something quit? Let us put it on the route.
Call or send the form; you hear back with a window before the shop closes, the van arrives carrying the usual parts for your make, and the $99 for the diagnosis rolls into the repair total if you go ahead.
