Ice Maker Repair in Hawks Prairie, where every fridge matches
Hawks Prairie kitchens from the 2010s onward came with French-door refrigerators and an ice maker built into the left door, a design with more small failures than anything else nearby.

Ice makers in Hawks Prairie refrigerators
The refrigerators the builders put in along Willamette Drive, Britton Parkway and the loops off Hawks Prairie Road between 2008 and 2018 are mostly French-door models with the ice maker in the fresh-food door. It is an elegant design and a fussy one. The ice room has to stay below freezing inside a door that is otherwise at forty degrees, sealed by a duct gasket and drained by a tube that both give up early, and the whole thing drinks Lacey city water that carries hardness and, in some pressure zones, manganese. The result is a neighborhood of ice makers that slow down, frost over and jam inside the same few years, on a schedule we can nearly predict from the year the house closed.
Our fee to find the fault is $99. It covers a technician metering the valve, module, auger motor and sensors, the failed part named specifically, and one repair figure written before anything is replaced. Approving that figure means the $99 was a portion of it you have effectively already paid. Turning it down means you owe $99 for the visit and nothing beyond. Newer Hawks Prairie refrigerators are often still under maker's coverage that includes the ice maker, and we raise that first.
Ice maker repairs from Hawks Prairie kitchens
One tray of ice a day from a French-door unit — Britton Parkway townhome 2013
A 2013 French-door refrigerator in a townhome off Britton Parkway makes a single harvest a day, far short of what the family needs. Flow to the in-door maker has dropped because the filter is overdue and manganese scale has narrowed the inlet valve. We measure fill volume, swap the filter, service the valve, check pressure at the supply box behind the refrigerator, and time a full harvest before leaving.
Chute flap stuck open and the ice room frosting — Willamette Drive 2011
A 2011 French-door on Willamette Drive has a dispenser chute flap that no longer closes fully, so warm kitchen air drifts into the ice room and everything inside frosts and fuses. The flap solenoid or its spring has failed, and the auger strains against a block. We replace the flap assembly, defrost and reset the ice room, check the duct gasket while there, and confirm the auger turns without drag.
Lower bin ice fused into a block on a dual ice maker — Costco side 2021 build
A 2021 house on the Costco side has a refrigerator with two ice makers, and the lower freezer-drawer unit has turned its bin into one solid block. The bin thermistor or harvest cycle is misreading, or the drawer seal leaks humid air. A refrigerator this new may still carry maker's coverage, so we check that first. Otherwise we test sensors and heater, replace the failed one, and reset both makers.
Water on the floor behind the refrigerator — Hawks Prairie Landing rental
A family who arrived in a Hawks Prairie Landing rental during PCS season finds a puddle spreading from behind the refrigerator. The plastic water line was kinked or nicked when movers pushed the unit into place, or a compression fitting at the supply box was left loose. We replace the line with braided steel, reseat the fittings, test under pressure, and confirm the ice maker fills on the new line.
Ice maker silent since the PSE outage — Marvin Road 1999 side-by-side
A side-by-side in a 1999 house off Marvin Road has not made ice since the November windstorm outage, though the refrigerator itself recovered. The board lost its ice maker enable setting in the blink, or the surge damaged the module. We check the settings and the on-off switch first, then meter the module, thermostat and valve, and change out only the piece that gave up rather than the entire assembly.
White flecks and cloudy cubes — Hawks Prairie Road 2005 house
A 2005 house on Hawks Prairie Road gets ice with white flecks that settle in the glass. The water filter is long overdue and mineral scale is sloughing off the inside of the fill tube and valve. We swap the filter, flush reservoir and fill tube, service the valve, dump the first harvests, and discuss a filter schedule and a supply-box sediment filter suited to Lacey water.
The ice maker visit in Hawks Prairie
- Send us the refrigerator brand and say whether the ice maker sits in the door, the freezer or both; Hawks Prairie builder packages are mostly in-door, and we load parts for those first.
- Fill volume and supply pressure at the box behind the refrigerator are measured before any ice maker part is suspected.
- Valve, module, auger motor, flap solenoid and sensors are metered in order, and the failed one is shown to you with the repair figure sent by email for approval.
- In-door ice maker assemblies, auger motors, valves and flap kits matching the LG, Whirlpool, GE and Frigidaire refrigerators in Hawks Prairie packages are stocked; anything ordered goes in when we come back, and that trip is ours to cover.
- We wait for a test harvest where time allows, set the bin fill level, and the emailed invoice sets out the warranty term in print.
In-door ice makers, dual makers and the water behind the wall
The in-door ice maker is the most repaired component in Hawks Prairie refrigerators, and we approach it as a known job rather than a mystery. The duct gasket, drain tube, flap assembly and auger motor are the parts that fail, in roughly that order, and the fix is a reseal, a defrost and a reset with whichever part is due. We tell owners plainly which models will need the same attention again and how often. The dual ice makers in the 2019–2024 builds near the Regional Athletic Complex are newer, better sealed, and still worth checking for maker's coverage before any money is spent.
The other half of the story is the water line. New Hawks Prairie houses feed the refrigerator from a recessed supply box in the wall, usually with a plastic line that movers kink and that mineral scale narrows. That line and its fittings get checked every time we are behind a refrigerator, since a slow leak there ruins a floor before anyone sees it. Landlords and property managers receive finding and figure on their phones and the invoice wherever they want it emailed, and the families who move every few years get the line and the ice maker checked together when they arrive.
Asked in Hawks Prairie
What makes a French-door refrigerator's ice maker keep frosting up?
Because the ice room sits inside a door that is otherwise at refrigerator temperature, sealed only by a duct gasket and a chute flap. When either lets warm air in, frost forms, the auger jams and the bin fuses. On the 2008–2018 builder-package refrigerators in Hawks Prairie no ice maker fault is more common, and the reseal, defrost and reset is a known repair.
Is the ice maker covered if my refrigerator is new?
Often. Refrigerators in the 2020s Hawks Prairie builds usually carry the maker's one-year coverage on everything including the ice maker, and some brands extend coverage on specific components. Send the model, serial and closing date and we will tell you before you book the $99 visit whether the manufacturer should be handling the repair.
Does fixing the in-door ice maker mean replacing the entire door?
Usually. The flap assembly, auger motor, duct gasket and inlet valve are all replaceable on their own, and we replace only the part that failed. A cracked ice room housing or a failed heater bonded into the door is the exception, and there we write the figure for the assembly and tell you plainly whether it makes sense for the age of the refrigerator.
Does Lacey city water hurt an ice maker?
It ages specific parts faster. Lacey groundwater is moderately hard and carries manganese in some Hawks Prairie pressure zones, which scales the inlet valve, narrows the fill tube, uses up filters early and leaves white flecks in the cubes. Changing the filter on schedule and adding a sediment filter at the supply box slows all of that, and we say which is worth doing after seeing your fill.
We just moved in and there is water behind the refrigerator. Is the ice maker broken?
Probably not the ice maker itself. Water behind a refrigerator after a move is usually the plastic supply line, kinked or nicked when the unit was pushed into place, or a compression fitting left loose at the wall box. We replace the line with braided steel, tighten and test the fittings, and then confirm the ice maker fills and harvests normally on the repaired supply.
